Tahquamenon Falls
Upper Tahquamenon Falls
Did you know that there are a lot of waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? One of the more well-known and visited waterfalls in the U.P. is Upper Tahquamenon Falls near Paradise, Michigan which is located on Lake Superior’s Whitefish Bay. Upper Tahquamenon Falls has a 50-foot drop to the river below. It is sometimes referred to as the Root Beer falls because of its amber color which is attributed to tannins accumulated from swamps that the Tahquamenon River flows through.

Lower Tahquamenon Falls
Four miles downstream from Upper Tahquamenon Falls is Lower Tahquamenon Falls. Lower Tahquamenon Falls is a series of five smaller waterfalls that drops about 20 feet in total. Both Upper and Lower Tahquamenon Falls are located in Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
