Great Egret
Did you know that the Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society? The Great Egret is a tall, white bird. It has black legs and feet and a long, yellowish-orange bill. It can be found wading in shallow water in ponds, lakes, rivers, and wetlands in Michigan waiting for fish and other small prey that it feeds on to swim by. The scientific name for the Great Egret is Ardea alba.

Snowy Egret
The adult Snowy Egret is a small, white bird with black legs and yellow feet. It has a long, black bill which it uses to spear fish, frogs and other small prey that it feeds on. Snowy Egrets can be found wading in shallow water in ponds, lakes, rivers, and wetlands in Michigan. The scientific name for the Snowy Egret is Egretta thula.
