Blue Jays

Did you know that Blue Jays are considered to be very intelligent birds? They have good memories and can recognize and remember human faces. Blue Jays also bury and hide food such as acorns, seeds and nuts to eat later and to cache for the winter, and they can remember where it is.

Blue Jays are found year round in Michigan but some can migrate south in the fall and return in the spring.

The scientific name for the Blue Jay is Cyanocitta cristata.

Appearance

Male and female Blue Jays look alike, although the males can be larger than the females. They have blue feathers, a white chest and a blue crest on top of their heads.
